PocketMap: privacy policy

Last updated November 2, 2026. Checked against the app's code on that date.

The short version

No account, no analytics, no crash reporter, and nothing reaches us. The app talks only to public map, search, routing and weather services, and your position leaves the phone only when you ask for a route the downloaded area cannot cover.

What stays on your device

Other services the app connects to

Each of these receives only what is listed, plus the IP address any network request carries. Services run by others handle it under their own privacy policies.

ServiceWhat it receivesWhen
tiles.openfreemap.orgRequests for map style, fonts, sprites and vector tiles; tile coordinates reveal the area viewed. Identifying User-Agent 'PocketMap/0.1'.Viewing the map online and downloading a region (max 4 parallel requests)
nominatim.openstreetmap.orgThe search text, the phone's preferred language (Accept-Language), User-AgentOnly when you submit a search (no autocomplete), at most 1 request per 1.1 s
valhalla1.openstreetmap.deStart point (your current position) and destination coordinates, travel mode; header X-Client-Id 'co.superduperai.pocketmap'Only when you tap Walk/Bike/Drive and the downloaded graph does not cover both ends
api.open-meteo.com, air-quality-api.open-meteo.comA 4x6 grid of coordinates over the visible map (4 decimals), not your positionOnly when the optional overlay is on; at most one refresh per 15 minutes per view

Permissions

iOS asks you before the app can use any of these, and you can change your answer in Settings at any time. The app keeps working without them, minus the feature that needs it.

Analytics and crash reports

None. The app contains no analytics code of any kind.

No crash reporter in the app. If you chose to share analytics with app developers in iOS Settings, Apple sends us anonymous crash logs; you can turn that off under Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements.

Routing graphs

Downloaded regions include routing graphs served as static files from our Cloudflare R2 bucket (pocketmap-graph.pages.dev as a fallback). Those requests carry only the coordinates of the tiles in the area you download; like any web request they come from your IP address, and we keep no log of them.

Children

The app is for a general audience. It asks no one, children included, for a name, email, age or any other personal detail.

Deleting your data

Everything the app keeps lives on your device. Delete the app and iOS deletes its data with it. We hold no account or profile of you, so there is nothing on our side to export or erase; if you think we hold something, write to us and we will check and answer plainly.
