Crew Air: privacy policy

Last updated November 2, 2026. Checked against the app's code on that date.

The short version

No account. The place you plan for goes to our server at airsignal.app for the forecast. A report carries its kind, an optional note and, if you allow location, your position; the server stores the position rounded to about 100 m, and anyone who opens that site's crew page the same day can read that day's reports, notes included.

What the app sends to us

What stays on your device

Other services the app connects to

Each of these receives only what is listed, plus the IP address any network request carries. Services run by others handle it under their own privacy policies.

ServiceWhat it receivesWhen
TypeSafe (through our server)A sky photo with faces painted over on the phone, at most 768 px, no EXIF, plus the plan place. Our server passes it on once to score the smokeOnly when you check the sky
airsignal.app/crew in Safari, and www.dir.ca.govAn ordinary page visit; our website counts page views with the same counterOnly when you open the briefing sheet or the Cal/OSHA complaint page

Permissions

iOS asks you before the app can use any of these, and you can change your answer in Settings at any time. The app keeps working without them, minus the feature that needs it.

Analytics and crash reports

The app counts its own use with our self-hosted, open-source counter at analytics.superduperai.co (superduper-analytics). Each event carries its name, the app version, a timestamp and a random id created on first launch. That id lives only in the app, is deleted with it, and is not the advertising identifier or tied to any account. The server keeps the country Cloudflare reports for the request and does not store your IP address. No third-party analytics, no tracking across apps or websites. Crew Air sends three events: app launched, plan viewed, sky checked. They carry no place, photo or report.

No crash reporter in the app. If you chose to share analytics with app developers in iOS Settings, Apple sends us anonymous crash logs; you can turn that off under Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements.

Reports are visible to your site

Crew Air exists so a crew can see conditions together. Every report for a site and date, including its note, can be read by anyone who opens that site's crew page that day. Do not put names, phone numbers or health details in a note.

Children

Crew Air is a work tool for outdoor crews and employers and is not meant for children under 13.

Deleting your data

Settings live on the device and go when you delete the app, as does the random counter id. Reports carry no account, so we cannot list "yours"; to have a specific report removed, write to us with the site, date and time. Reports are kept 24 months, the IP hash 2 days.
